CELLULAR BLINDS AND HOW TO CLEAN THEM

Cellular blinds have a lot of insulating properties, but you also have to clean them regularly. Professional cleaning your cellular blinds can be expensive and leave you without blinds in your home while they are being serviced. Using the ultrasonic cleaning method many professional cleaners use can be quite costly and take several days and may alter the shape of your blinds. 

If you can install blinds yourself why not clean them yourself? The good news is our cellular blinds can be maintained using everyday cleaning tools you most likely already have around the house. If your cellular blinds are regularly maintained, it will eliminate the need for a deep cleaning with a professional service.

Cleaning Dust and Insects from you Cellular Blinds

There are 3 methods to cleaning dust and insects from your cellular blinds and keeping them looking new! 

1) Using a compressed air canister, position the spray applicator at the mouth of a cell shade. Spray air through each single cell to clear dust and bugs. You can also clear dust from the creases between cells using compressed air. 

Spray the compressed air from top to bottom and side to side. If you don’t have a compressed air canister, using a hair dryer on a LOW or COOL can also be effective. 

2) Gently wipe blinds regularly with a microfibre cloth to clear dust. You can also use a lint roller or a feather duster. Always wipe side to side across each cell and between the cells. 

3) You can clean dust and bugs from your cellular blinds using the brush attachment of a vacuum. Always vacuum in a side to side motion, cleaning along each individual cell. Vacuuming the blinds from top to bottom will prevent moving dust around the shade as you clean. 

Use the lowest power setting on your vacuum. Vacuums that are too powerful can deform the blind, so be sure test the suction pressure on a small section of the blind before using this method.

Cleaning Dirt and Stains

It is not recommended to submerge cellular blinds in water. This can warp the shape of the cells. However there is a method to gently clean dirt and stains from your blinds! 

You can spot clean your cellular blinds using warm water and a mild dish detergent. Make sure the water is simply warm and not too hot as excess heat can weaken glue holding the cells together. Mix the lukewarm water in a large bowl with a few tablespoons of the mild dish detergent. 

Using a microfibre clothing that has been dampened in the water detergent solution, gently dab at the stain or dirt until the blemish lifts. Repeat the process once the shade has dried if the stain hasn't completely been removed. 

*Note: Always test your rag and cleaner on a small portion of your blinds beforehand. Some rags or sponges may discolour your blinds. Try and avoid using too much pressure when spot cleaning with water as this can cause damage or pilling in the fabric.
